MADAMA BUTTERFLY--Dovunque al mondo

The Opera : Madama Butterfly is based on a play both over a century old, and is as contemporary as the evening
news. An American naval office is stationed in a foreign country and takes a foreign bride, but only on his terms.
Civilizations conflict and hearts break to the passionate music of Puccini, the wizard whose melodies appeal to all.

The Production : Eugene Opera's beautiful production is true to the noblest traditions of Italian Opera. Under
the direction of the exciting young conductor Kelly Kuo, a native of Oregon, our cast is headed by Kelly Cae Hogan,
a principal artist at the Metropolitan Opera in New York City. Ms. Hogan's portrayal of the role has been prepared
with the assistance of the most-acclaimed Madama Butterfly in the past 40 years, the internationally renowned
soprano Renata Scotto.
