Read the story of La Bohème
The Opera: The greatest love story ever sung, the romance of Paris, Puccini’s glorious music— La Bohème is THE opera for everyone!
The Production: Eugene Opera has assembled a young cast of international stars who can give full measure to both the drama and music of Puccini’s masterpiece. Leading the cast are Metropolitan Opera stars Emily Pulley (hailed by the New York Times for her “unfailing warmth, radiance, and spirit”) as Mimi and baritone Michael Mayes (last seen in Eugene as the Conte di Luna in Il Trovatore) as Marcello. Rising stars Jill Gardner and Thomas Corbeil join the cast as Musetta and Colline. The entire production will be conducted by Eugene Opera’s Music Director, Andrew Bisantz, and directed by Nicola Bowie, from London’s Royal Opera House, Covent Garden.
The Music: From the high spirits of the opening notes, through the joy of Christmas Eve in the Latin Quarter, to the devastating final page, the glory and grandeur of La Bohème has made it the world’s favorite opera.
