The Opera: The world's most popular Romantic opera returns to Eugene for the first time in 25 years. Knowledge, power, riches, love, salvation, and eternal damnation: all are here in Gounod's powerful and melodious music.
The Production: This new production of FAUST will feature a powerful cast of international singers headed by tenor Scott Ramsay (fresh from his appearances at the Chicago Lyric Opera in LUCIA DI LAMMERMOOR opposite Natalie Dessay) making his debut in the title role. Joining him will be Christina Pier (last season's astonishing Donna Anna) as Marguerite and Steven Gallop (last seen as the noble Sarastro in THE MAGIC FLUTE) as Mephistopheles. Joining them will be the Eugene Opera Orchestra and expanded chorus under the direction of Andrew Bisantz.
The Music: FAUST is Gounod's Romantic masterpiece. From the very first evocative moments of the prelude, beautiful arias, ensembles like the famous Garden Scene, and stirring choruses all culminate in one of the most famous and compelling finales in all music. FAUST will be an evening of opera you will never forget!
