Eugene Opera's
ARTIST MENTOR PROGRAM is a unique way for local artists to participate in the magic of opera.
This program, open by audition to members of the Eugene Opera
chorus, prepares members to learn all or part of
major roles in each season's upcoming operas, often in the original language.
The local artists then "cover" for the
principal artists during preliminary rehearsals, and also represent the
company in performances throughout the
Eugene-Springfield area, and throughout Oregon.
Chosen by Artistic Advisor Mark Beudert, the artists are initially trained by Chorus Master
Dr. John Jantzi. During
production time, the artists will be able to attend coaching from conductors Nicholas Carthy
and Kelly Kuo. The
program is co-ordinated by Teri Hoy, a long-time member of the Chorus, and then Program.
Teri covered the role
of The Second Lady in Eugene Opera's MAGIC FLUTE
production in 1996, and will be performing as principal artist
in the 2007 production of the same opera.
Other members of the AMP will be perfomring in roles in both this
production and in MADAMA BUTTERFLY.
The Artist Mentor Program appeared on August 19, 2007 at MarshAnne Landing Winery in Roseburg,
in an
hour-long of opera excerpts from this season's operas and other favorites. You can read about
it at http://www.newsreview.info/article/200770809011.
Members of the AMP will appear with principal artists on the Hult Center SHO-case series, Thursdays at noon
at the Hult Center lobby. The cast of THE MAGIC FLUTE will appear on December 27, 2007, and the cast of
MADAMA BUTTERFLY will appear on February 28, 2008.
